In the early 20th century, Xu Beihong (1895-1953) and Pan Yuliang (1895-1977), as artists who studied in France, held a significant position in the history of modern Chinese art. Despite this, comprehensive research surrounding these two artistic masters remains insufficient. This paper delves into their artistic journeys and intersections, utilizing Taine's "Three-Factor" Theory and documentary analysis methods to reveal the artistic formation of Xu Beihong and Pan Yuliang's oil paintings. It explores the profound influence of race, milieu, and epoch on the formation of their artistic creations. Through a multidimensional analysis of these two early 20th-century Chinese artists who studied in France, this research aims to provide new insights and theoretical support for future artistic creation and academic research by analyzing the artwork using Taine's "Three-Factor" Theory.
